I have a 2001 Discovery II that will not register more than slightly above 1/2 on the fuel gauge even after filling the tank. When the fuel level falls below the 1/2 tank mark the fuel gauge works fine. Does anyone know of a fix for this problem which doesn't involve replacing the fuel tank? Please let me know what you think

Thank you

Attached are two pics showing expected voltages at various levels of fuel in the tank and also circuit dia of feeds. Haven't any knowledge of your prob but hope this helps? Dia of tank shows that sender and delivery are all one unit and can be removed from top of tank which, I assume, required tank to be removed first unless someone knows different????? Anyway, worth checking voltages first. Good luck.

You can access the combined pump/sender without removing the tank (TD5 assumed!) the RAVE manual shows removing the 3rd row seats (if fitted) then O/S rear side trim which allows the carpet to be pulled back to access the removable panel in the floor to gain access to the unit.

Check your wiring connections first, you never know, if a wire is rubing against metal and allowing an earth path, this could alter the reading although its unlikely. Chances are either the gauge or sender are faulty. With older vehicles you could test the fuel gauge by removing the wire from the sender and touching it against a good earth point, if the gauge rises to full, its working fine and the sender is faulty, not sure about trying this on a Disco with more complex electronics.

Well spotted Mantamad! Couldn't find the access to pump part on Rave - obviously didn't look hard enough:confused: Attaching dia showing how to remove the unit so it can also be tested by manually moving the sender unit.

Sorry to drag an old thread up ,
As some of you know I am getting a custom fuel tank made for my landy and I will also need a custom fuel gauge . I still want to be able to use the td5 discovery dash and binnacle so could I get get a new fuel sender made to the ohm values as above in the pictures (245 and 15 and plug and play ? Thanks Ben

Mainly because I didn't like the td5 way of filtering it twice, I have a inline pump and a 300tdi filter housing which is mounted at the front.
