At least thats what I think it is. It came on today after a 10 mile drive I had parked up for ten or fifteen minutes when I got back in and started her it came on and stayed on for a minute or so. It has never come on before not even as a bulb cheak when I start the engine (I think its supposed to) So do I just change the fuel filter or drain the tank or something completly different. I may have connected or disconnected wires by accident lately I had the transmission tunnel out and its a tight squeeze between seat box and fuse box. Any advice please :scratching_chin:

On the subject of fuel sensors etc.

My 90 2.5tdi fuel light doesnt work when the levels get low. i have checked the bulb and fuses and its not that. can you advise please on where the sensor is and where it reads from as a way of problem solving to see why it won't work.

Many Thanks

usually the bottom of the fuel filter. Im not sure where it is on a TD5, but the other ones the filter has a little plastic thumbscrew you slacken off to drain out the water. Make sure you dont empty all the fuel out.

Check in haynes, itll say in there. Or probably even the owners manual.

discovery ones are attached to the chassis near the tank, it may be similarly placed

otherwisetrace your fuel pipe from the tank to the engine. it'll be along it somewhere.

Its not in the owners manual and its not obvious on the filter Ill look again in the morning when its bright thanks again

I changed the fuel filter today (the water trap is on the bottom of the filter) 108 euro for a filter and sensor at the main steelers. The light on the dash has now gone out and it started after Id finished but it wont start now. Ive used the bleeding method from the owners handbook 3 times until the battery went flat, its now on charge in me shead. Anyone got a plan as to what to try next. I forgot to mention that the fuel sensor was missing off the old filter never was on in time Iv owned it. Thanks for any help

how long did you run the engine for before switching off? if it was only run for a few secs or less than 1or2 mins, i would say air in the system, did you fill the filter up with fuel before replacing? if not the chances are the engine started and run on the fuel in the pipes, best thing to do is undo bleed nipple on the filter housing and bleed it.next job slacken the injector pipes off att the injector end and crank the engine over 3or 4 times, retighten the pipes and then try to start it failing this repeat the same again.

It ran for a few minutes 3 or 4 but I think this is whats happened. I never filled the filter first even though I normally would. I found a step by step guide on the web and followed it to the letter. Its the first time Ive changed the fuel filter on it and td5;s are always different. So do you think its ok to bleed it like I would any other diesel engine, Im not sure about cracking the injectors open

should be able to just leave the ignition on should perg most on its own then crank it over

im not sure on these but i would do it as a normal engine. i know some engines have got electric fuel pumps fitted aswell as a lift pump, norm for this is to leave igniton on and it bleeds its self, as for injector pipes you will need at a guess a 17mm spanner but when undoing the pipe try to use both hands 1 to steady the spanner the other to turn but do it slowly that way then the spanner doesnt slip and wipe your knuckles clean of skin cus this does fooooooooookin hurt,

would'nt mess with the injecters meself mate
when i had my 24month service done in sept i was there when the machanic fitted it and he left the ignition on and you could hear when it had cleared the air out the tank pump was going like a bumble be for a bit then slowed down as it cleared
