Hi would a problem with the fuel cut off solenoid cause my engine to keep running when the key is turned off on a 2.5tdi?
Also would the fuel cutoff solenoid be attached to the wiring system through a relay or direct?

Pull the wire off it. Still goes? Solenoid.
Stops ? Wiring or ignition switch problem.

I've found the plungers in the solenoid to get sticky before. Follow @Flossie 's advice.

Years ago the pump on my 300tdi started depositing swarf in the solenoid causing it to stick.

Yeah, my 200tdi pump did that years ago too.

Thanks everyone, it isn’t the ignition switch.
Will try that tomorrow and let you know.

Did you change the fuel pump out? I have replaced three of these in three months.

Yes I did in the end. The new solenoid worked for a bit then would stick. Eventually the pump started to leak, then I changed it
