I have just gone over to a 2 Litre TD Grand Vitara from a petrol vehicle,
what I want to know is. If the ideal speed for the best petrol consumption
is 56 MPH, what is the best speed for a 2 Litre TD to get the best diesel
consumption.

Try keeping the engine at the speed (RPM) that produces the maximum
torque. For example, my Hummer has max torque at 1700 RPM, so if I
keep it at that RPM in high gear (OD) I, in theory, get teh best
economy.

Good advise especially if it occurs at 60 mph or less.
