Hi folks, does anyone know the correct name/part no for the fixings that are used to hold the wheel arch liners to the body? They have a centre that you're supposed to be able to pry out (yeah right).
Just fixed my TD4 from belching black smoke out the exhaust and spitting oil all over the offside engine compartment, following the excellent advice on here. The initial problem was a split hose to the intercooler, which was just as well otherwise I'd not have noticed the oil that was spewing out! When I replaced the hose I quickly put the new one on so that I didn't lose too much oil from the intercooler ... After reading more and observing the fountain of oil coming from the dipstick I figured I had other problems which needed fixing. Got a new crank case breather filter from my dealer for £27, then read that the valve might be sticking too so ordered the complete assembly off ebay for £25 + £1 delivery, including the filter - all genuine land rover parts. Work that one out! I also cleaned out the EGR which was full of crud (as was the inlet manifold, but I've left that for now). Given the amount of oil that came out of the intercooler when I replaced the hose, I decided to remove it and flush it through.
...so I had to get the bumper off and that was the hardest job of the lot! Why do they use screws which will rust and have no bite left for a screwdriver, and why those stupid plastic fixings? I also had to drill the scrivets out from below the numberplate. So I now need the various fixings to complete the job and fingers crossed that it's not a problem with the turbo seals.
Tried the engine and no fountain of oil anymore. I just need to get the bumper/ wheel arch liners back on.
Any pointers mucho appreciated.
