hi

quick question ;-]
how does an mot tester check those bearings for 'roughness' .. ?
and ..
is there a method by which i could check them at home ?

`````````````````````
reason i ask ..
2018 mot spotted roughness on front ns bearing
that bearing was subsequently replaced [ by same lr garage ]
2019 mot .. at a different place .. again 'roughness on front ns bearing'
[ taking into account .. second place be a tyre / suspension retailer ]
.. i've a belated 2020 mot next week
so .. would like to be able to check for said 'roughness' @ home .. if possible
`````````````````````````
cheers

Do they mean top bearing or the wheel bearing?

Top bearing can be tested by putting front wheels on metal plates and then turning steering wheel from lock to lock whilst putting ear to the top mount and bearing.
If the bearing is bad it will be rough and also the spring will 'twang' as it tries to twist!!

I definitely agree with Andy on that one. I had a text book failure like that. The only thing I would disagree with though is the "twang". It's more of a boing...

passed mot today ..
No roughness on that bearing ..
[ mot done at LR dealership ]
