I paid a garage to fit a front prop uj repair kit to my mums discovery (2001) - the day after collection - the prop has sheared off....is it their fault?

Short answer yes their fault. Did you buy their part or your own supplier part. Their part is what recommended for the vehicle under guarantee. If you have bought from your supplier, then it failed and you have guarantee for a replacement on reason by the garage.
As far as you know, that part fitted is perfect as no issue was raised by the garage. Has the garage said they will replace the part and repair any damage resulting to the failure yet.

Welcome to the forum.
I would definitely bring it to the attention of the garage who installed the front prop.

^ what he said.
Many garages won't fit customer supplied parts coz of the hassle they can bring
Generally worth paying the handling charge (if any) for the sake of the warranty aspect.
:)

Also - what led to you getting the kit and asking the garage to fit it? That may not have been the original issue.

To be fair, I dont think we.know he supplied the part, we're just making assumptions.

Yes...ish. I read it such that she took the kit to the garage and asked them to fit it. I may be mistaken. :D

Almost 48 hours and no further comment from op. Shrugs.....
