Managed to split a disc. Lucky it was low speed, minimum damage, got away with pads and discs. Land Rover state the fixed carrier retaining bolts must be replaced cos the new ones are impregnated with stud lock. What's wrong with putting stud lock on the old uns??

They should run a thread chaser down them and then re-use with new lock. however ? how much are they ? probably not much so change them, nothing lost really. Unless you remove the old thread lock then you can start damaging threads. There are many grades of thread lock, the ones on those bolts are the hardest and toughest.

Thanks for replying. The problem is not cost but delivery & availability, I need to get back on the road pronto and putting thread lock on will give a good result. I didn't want to do a dangerous practice & leave the Landy potentially unsafe.

In that case, simply brush the threads with a wire brush, apply new sealant and away you go. I wouldn't give it a second thought. Just - as said - remove the worst of the old locktite and re-apply.
No worries at all.
Go for it. :) - you WILL be fine. !
