Dear all,
I ordered a flange and seal kit from Island to replace this weekend. It arrived in time, but some dimwit has mishandled the padded envelope to the point where it was ripped open and one part of the kit is missing, the seal ring. I'm in Norway, where no land rover dealer will have something like this in stock. So, I need to get one quick, but where? Does anybody know what the exact specifications for this seal is? I'm sure it's basically a standard industrial size, but which one? If someone has one kicking around, please have a look and let me know the numbers and letters that are printed on it.
I'd appreciate your help.

Thanks!
Henrik

IF you take the damaged seal to an industrial bearing supplier or engineers supplier they will measure i/d.o/d, and thickness they should then be able to supply a replacement oil seal

Thanks. I thought of that, but that would involve removing the seal (i.e. messing it up completely) without having a new one at hand. I dare not take the risk that this particular size is out of stock, as that would leave the car undriveable. In fact, our company has a large stock of seals and bearings and with a bit of luck, I only have to cross the parking lot to find it. Must know the size first, though...

I thought you had the damaged seal you can measure the seal in situ if you have accurate measuring tools. it will be metric, the o/d will be full size(no fractions of a mm) as will be the bore. the only thing you will have difficulty is the thickness .in all probability it will be 8,10 or12mm thick.best of luck

Is the delivery company not liable?

Could Island help out if you explained? Mind you, getting them to answer the phone is not easy! E-mail, maybe?

I'm sure they're liable, but the money isn't the issue (£5); time is. I was planning to replace this weekend and that's not going to happen with something shipped from the UK tomorrow. I won't mind the expense of a new seal, but I need to source it here if I am to stick with the schedule. The part of it being metric makes it all the more likely that a suitable replacement can be easily found. Internal diameter I can find easily enough, anyone who knows the outer dia and height of the seal?
