Hello chaps I'm looking for a bit of advice. I think the front axle has had its chips as there seems to be an awful lot of rumbling, drumming, vibration and bearing noise from the front. I don't think its a drive line problem as (I know you should not do this) but if you slip the car into neutral and let the revs drop to tick over the noise and other elements are still there and speed related. The vibration and wobble are not from the suspension bushes or ball joints or track rod ends as these have all been replaced and the tyres are 4 x Brand new Goodyears which have been balanced and checked again. the props have had new Hardy spicer joints fitted, so I hope its not the prop. The only advise I had on the M.O.T was play in front wheel bearing so I think that is where the bearing noise is from. Anyway getting to the crux of the matter To cover all bases I want to fit a complete axle from a 2001 with the 4 pin diff. This way I will eliminate all faults. The only problem I have is the ball joints were fitted very recently at great expense and I want to transfer them to the new axle ( I can fit them OK but does anyone have any ideas how i might get them out without damaging them ,short of cutting the holder which does not matter as the old axle will be scrap. If anyone could give me any pointers on this whole situation I would be most grateful. Thanks in advance chaps. Oh and the cars is a late Gems V8 if that helps.
