HELLLPP! Right last month I bought a defender and straight away stripped it down, bought now close to £4k in parts (including respray that's booked in for tommorow) and was really looking forward to getting this Landy looking amazing then today I get home from work to a letter from the dvla, I opened it expecting my log book and instead it's a letter asking for make, model, pictures and rubbings of vin numbers, who and when I purchased from ect. Befor I spend anymore money on this what's going on? I'm panicking now that iv either bought a ringer or stolen car ect. I can't afford to lose £10k on this what's going on. Is this innocent or should I be worried?

Had similar with my ambulance and it was because they had conflicting records (Marshalls body build number and VIN), don't know if that has any bearing on this case.

Id be worried if it was me but if they suspected it stolen/cloned and theyve got the guys address i think they would send the police not a letter to warn you !

Don't mean this to panic you, but in your shoes I would be moving it to either a locked garage/shed or storing it anywhere but the registered address. I've heard of cars being impounded and never being seen again in this/similar circumstance.
Sounds like a right headache though - I hope you can get it all cleared up without too much hassle. :(

Id do the same just to be safe so i could take off the parts id fitted but if it was stolen the police would of been round by now ,once had a knock at the door on christmas eve (years ago) was a copper asking about a car id recently bought ,turned out there was a dispute over ownership between the guy i bought it off and the guy he had bought it off

A wagon came that night and i didnt see the car until april as it took that long to sort it all out
