Hi I own a much loved freelander TD4 y reg but it has recently developed a wobble ( gearlever wobbles like mad) had new propshaft bearings fitted recently and rear diff bushes. front tyres wearing unevenly. 2 new tyres on rear. The wobble is worst when you get up to say 50 - 60 mph and then ease off - really bad. Someone suggested it might be a buckled wheel on the back or possible prop shaft out of balance. I must add it doesnt do it all the time eg town driving it doesnt. I would be grateful
if anybody out there can help me

Can we assume it didn't do it before you had the new propshaft bearings etc

My Td4 has developed a noticeable wobble at 1500 rpm when pulling hard but disapears over 2000 rpm. just changed the front drive shafts and thought they were faulty. Checked for bent shafts or poor CV joints but all is OK. I notice the genuine LR CV joints are different than the ones I have fitted. Not sure where to look for the solution to this problem. I have noticed that he lower engine stabiliswer rod was a bit slack. Could this be the problem?
Has anyone experienced this problem

When you say the cv joints are different ,in what way are they different ? Are you sure you didn't get drive shafts for the older L series ?

Thanks for replying. I purchased these from Island 4x4 suitable for TD4 and the V6 version. The outer caseing (gearbox end and IRD end) is different from the original drive shafts. The originals are shaped and need a special boot to fit that shape. The new shaft casings are larger and parrallel. No telling what the buttons look like inside but the originals will move on a ball type bearing (sideways as well as rotational). I am planning to replace the originals to see if that makes any difference.

Up date. Replaced the originals and no wobble! IRD bearing is OK and so is the Diff bearing. Need to go back to Island 4X4 and get my money back.
