Hello,
I have an 03 Freelander V6 auto with 130k on the clock and gearbox problems.
After about 10 miles driving, when changing up from 3rd to 4th (either full auto or semi-auto) it seems to slip into neutral and then it goes haywire, changing into all sorts of gears. Sometimes an 'F' appears on the gear display and I need to switch off and on to reset it. Sometimes it goes into hill descent mode, which can be a bit worrying.
I changed the gearbox oil and filter about a month ago and it seemed to cure the problem, but its now come back.

Any help would be appreciated

If the oil level on the Jatco auto in the Freelander 1 is low, you can get problems when the auto has warmed up. There's a specific way to check the level which has been posted on ere in the main Freelander section. Is it leaking auto oil? It likes to drip onto the tray below the engine and jump off when your at speed so you don't get an oil mark under it. Is the coolant ok as this can get mixed with the auto oil if the cooler fails inside.

Could be a fault that only happens when it's hot. Some basic checks on this fred but I don't think it will cure your fault. http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f57/loss-power-gearbox-218939.html

In future ,if you have a freelander related question , ask it in the main freelander section .

Very few ever visit this section .

Hippo knows his stuff ,but I would suspect your clutch plate might be on its way out . A clutch has never burned out on me but I would expect to smell burning when nothing happens in go gear .

Did you ever get a conclusive result for this issue? I've tried searching for an answer to this problem, but can find nothing! Please help!!
