Hello all!

I've posted on here before about my 2008 freelander 2's starting issues and you were all so helpful I wondered if you could help with my next problems...

The rear windscreen wiper had never worked in the time I've owned it (since sept) I've now worked out the fuse was disconnected but I think the motor has gone, if I plug back in the fuse and if I physically push the wiper over it'll bring itself back and 'wipe' the window it cannot then however move its self back over to the original position (make sense?!) I've just been to a garage and showed them my findings and was quoted £290 to fix this.... is this sensible, reasonable?

Bear with me on this one....
The heating/air con unit thingy in the car roof placed between the 2 sunroofs has started whistling very very loudly, I've worked out it's this because it only does it when the windscreen heating etc is on, but once you've used it even if you turn it off it'll carry on whilsting. If you don't touch it at all when you start the car it doesn't whistle. - any ideas?

Their trivial problems in the grand scheme but annoying none the less, I feel a little like the local garage is over pricing things esp the rear wiper or is it really that much?

Many thanks again!

Charlotte maybe you could lift the plastic cover on the wiper and check to see if the nut as worked loose, and therefore not returning ? you could also remove the wipers then turn on the wiper to see if the spindle is turning both ways, it seems funny that it will wipe but not return.

I have had a read up on this and it seems this is a problem, which occurs if the water as frozen in the pipe to the wipes and it can sometime leak after thawing, it leaks into the motor and corrosion is caused which in turn can seize the motor, stopping it parking in original place.

I also read that one car burst into flames as the motor over heated after he had walked away from the car, so maybe that is why the fuse as been taken out.

You may get them else where too.

The fuse will be taken out to stop the rear wiper working if yer select reverse and the from wipers are on. This will make the rear wipe once.

And it’s not a heater/air con unit between the sunroofs it’s the ultrasonic sensor for the alarm system

Hi!

Thank you for that I just assumed it was because of the whistling sound it makes only when the heating etc is on, any ideas why this happens? Thanks!

Hey

Thanks for your reply!
I've had a look and all seems tight under the cover, thank you for the link, if the part they say I need is £125 I'll assume £290 isn't too bad really for them to fix it!

I couldn't get the wiper off, I don't actually know how to anyway but I have it a try and failed, so I'll take it to the garage and just tell them to crack on! I'm quite glad someone has disconnected the fuse after reading your comment!

Thanks again

Unsure but it does emit high level frequency when active (shouldn’t be when engine running)

Just to confirm can you upload a photo of the offending part?

This is where the offending whistling noise is coming from, like I said only when the heating is on?

That’s the ultrasonic sensor for the alarm

Not sure why it whistles when the heating is on - from memory it unclips from the roof so maybe remove it and inspect for water damage and disconnect it and see if the problem disappears

If it does might be worth trying a new module

Thank you, I'll try and unclip it in the light tomorrow, how do I then disconnect it? Thanks again
