Hi Guys, just wondered if you lot have any ideas or have had the same issue.
Ive got a 2006 Freelander sport what Ive spent thousands on keeping it right over the years. It has recently developed a knocking noise on the front, mainly when going on or off curbs it feels slack or turning on the spot sometimes.
It also does a clunk each side when braking hard which feels like the tops of the struts are moving forward is the only way I can describe it.

Ive had drop links, wishbones, balljoints, cv joints, engine mount done still the same. Ive had it in the garage and had two bills which are getting on for £1500 and its still the exact same.

Ive done all the rear diff bushes, subframe, prop bushes etc.

The garage are saying today they think it wants a new diff is all they can put it down to but I just feel like its not that. It is not making any noises when driving its nice and quiet, fine on gear changes. It does not make any noises when setting off or accelerating.

The latest is Im looking at £2000-3000 for the Gearbox/diff/clutch to be swapped or to get rid of the car. Ive spent so much on it and its such a nice example I just want it right.

Just wanted to see what you guys think or is there anything else cheap I can try first ? They dont seem to even want to look at the suspension.

Thanks for any help or advice

Sounds like top strut mounts. But before you take nything apart, fit an Allen key and try to tighten the single fixing nut at the top of the strut.

One under the water header and the other under the electrics box.

Silly possibility, are the wheel nuts tight? Had some knocking on a car and found I hadn't tightened the wheel nuts fully. (I can forget anything!)
You could remove drop links to confirm ARB all good.
