Hi all
wondering how many miles approx a well cared for td4 would last, the one am looking at is an 06 Hse with 98000 miles and full service history. Not yet had VCU changed , thanks

They don t rust, good for 200,000 if looked after, treating vcu as service item at 80-100,000 miles

had mine 5 years, got 180,000 miles on the clock

as the others have said, make sure u look after the vcu, give it a good service each year and will last well over 250,000 miles

make sure u have the same make, size tyres all round as the vcu , diff and ird don't like odd sized tyres fitted

If the VCU hasnt been changed , then replace with genuine GKN unit , as good insurance against IRD and Diff damage . Manual or auto ? Autos will go for very long mileages, occasionally a solenoid might go in box , if it does some don't imobilise you , but don't keep driving as further damage can be done quickly . Not a hard fix , and not that expensive.

I had a few problems with my auto box and found a good oil change work wonders, but like everything the oil changes have to be done exactly right

agree also in what u say about the vcu as that seems to be the most critical component if ignored can do the most damage

I've always done a good yearly service on mine and also extreme replaced the auto , ird and diff oil each and every year

has kept it running very well and suprised on the good 41 mpg return on a run

it's my first auto and wouldn't ever go back to a manual , is great off road and nice in traffic not having to sit on the clutch all the time

shame they've also stopped the production of the freelander , but seems there now sliming down the models to the discovery sport to replace the defender and freelander

ah another dumfrieshian

can i just say that i hope the letter G doesnt go wrong on someones keyboard when they message you
