Hi all
I have a 2001 v6 auto 27000 miles , Engine noise sounds like a tappet, but have been told by landrover it's a butterfly valve in the manifold assembly.(big black plastic box)
My problem is unless some one can tell me different - I have to replace the entire assembly Cost £440 + Vat (Thats supply only)
Basically that a very expensive butterfly valve - any idea's or advise would be appreciated - Jimmy (email jlinnen05@aol.com)

Thanks

well sorry they are right, there was a recall on the v6 where the ecu was reprogrammed to adjust the angle of the butterfly valves to stop the chattering noise like cam rattle,if programming did not fix this LR changed the manifold for free as per recal,so you need to find out if the campain is still out standing on your car to see if you can get it for free,i have stripped down the manifolds but impossible to fix when the damage has been done hope this helps tiga.

Hello Tigapiglet
thank you very much for your advise, My freelander went to rover for this campain/recall but came noisier - feel like taking on landrover over this as the mileage is so low ...... thanks again for your advise

Hi

When you say it's tappets type noise is it all the time or is it on accelleration ? if so it may well be the butterfly valve (my 89 classic will tap on accelleration I've found it's the butterfly valve)
