The internal heater fan has only worked in 3 and 4 settings, and I always like the fan on at least 1 setting to prevent misting, so it needed fixing pronto. Found on these fora that there is a pack of heater coils in the airflow that determine the fan speed. Sounds like an overly complicated way of doing things, especially as they break on a regular basis. Anyhow, found the repair kit on ebay Freelander I Rezpax Heater Resistor Pack Repair Kit on eBay (end time 13-Feb-11 22:01:29 GMT)

Removed the device from my car. It's green plastic with a wire block coming out of the middle located in the driver's footwell, held in by two screws into the heater/air pipes:

So removed the dead bits with a soldering iron and added the new. Easy peasy took a couple of minutes waiting for solder to melt. Didn't need a solder sucker, just slipped the new bits in while old solder melted.

All together and works a treat on all settings/speeds!
 
No worries. I'm working through the common problems and reporting on the fixes with pics. Hope it will be of use to someone else then. This and other fora gave me the answers, so I want to give something back. :eek:
 
I have a similar problem with my blower switch.
Sometimes it work fine on all speeds. Then for no apparent reason it will stop working. If I turn the switch back and forth a few times it will come back on sometimes.
Do you think it's the switch that needs replacing?
 
Sounds likely to be the switch to me. You could see if it is strippable, and get a can of switch cleaner/contact cleaner in there and see if it helps. If not, try a new switch..
 
I've just made this repair and exchanged the 2 brocken resistences with ceramic ones (just like the ones recomended in http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/heater-only-works-settings-3-4-a-100236.html) it is now working in all 4 speeds;
the problem now is that the fan is also working on speed 0 (zero);
BTW, I started the fan before screwing the piece back on just to check if it was working properlly and noticed that the resistences get very hot (burned my finger tips), are they suposed to get so hot? the welding is done ok, no short-circuites.
any ideia of what might be wrong?

Sold mine now and gone back to Mitsubishis. Got a Pajero soft top 2.8 on 285/75/16s and a Delica. :cool:
 
Hi, Apologies, but I am an amateur in this sort of thing. I have recently bought an ' 04 land rover Freelander diesel HSE. I have a similar issue to that mentioned above, in that I have low powered heat coming out from the heating system. I do , however, have some heat coming from my heater (probably 25% power I guess?.) . This increases as I increase the level from 1-4, but it doesn't seem particularly strong. Also, when I press the front screen defroster button it lights but that's about it, no increase in power and it does not affect the heating power at all. Any ideas what the issue is, as I am somewhat confused as I have some heat coming out, just no fan or power kicking in? Sorry if a garbled post but any help greatly appreciated!
