H everyone

I want to fit a towbar to the front of my 2001 Freelander [ V6 ]

I need this to enable me to push a small 14ft boat and trailer onto a restricted boat ramp and off course recover it. There is no long distance towing involved just the manouvering at the boat ramp.

Any body any ideas where I can obtain a kit. Is it practicle for me to fabricate one myself? any thoughts.

I had thought where the lash down eye is mounted that this could be removed and a tow bar reciever fitted in its place.. Are there any problems with this??

Many thanks for any comments and perhaps a reply to me at vk7am@bigpond.com would be advantageous

never seen one on a freelander, so would think you would be looking to fabricate one yourself. if you pop the front plastic bumper off, there is a metal crossmember right behind it, you could try bolting the hitch into this, but it may be too high.

alternatively, bolt a drop plate behind the crossmember, and cut a slot in the underside of the central bumper section to let it through, then bolt the tow ball to this.

or learn to reverse with a trailer.

is the front strong enough?

It would be. Front of the freelander 1 is very very strong for the class of vehicle.

Somebody correct me if i'm wrong as i've not had my whole bumper off before but i'm led to believe the bar behind the plastic bumper is actually solid aluminium? Mine looks like it from looking from underneath the vehicle anyway.

Given that the towing eye is good enough to pull the vehicle I'm looking to try and weld up a clamp to fit with a drop plate on the end.
