FreeLTD4HSE

Hello,

My name is Mav, joined this forum early this afternoon, seems like there's quite a lot of knowledgeable guys here :) How's about a little help for a new Freelander owner.

Situation is:

Bought an approved used freelander TD4 Auto HSE about three weeks ago. Very happy with it "but" am missing me cruise control.

Have contacted the dealer's service department and they say sorry we can't fit cruise control to your vehicle.

Contacted landrover direct, they say cause the freelander 2 has come out the previous model is no longer catered for :(

So my next option was to check it out myself having some technical knowledge.

I noticed on Instrument facia the cruise control symbol (which does not light up when key is turned to position two)

Image(26).jpg

Took apart the steering wheel (just lift the airbag out of the way)
Image(20).jpgImage(21).jpgImage(22).jpg

Then where the cruise control activation button is supposed to be i noticed this connection there already
Image(21).jpg

I purchased the cruise control switch and paddle control for the cruise control system, connected the activation switch and the switch worked but the cruise control light on the instrument panel did not light up

The cruise control paddle for the steering wheel came with a loom identical to the one already in place and a connection for cruise control is there waiting to be connected (Note: Two wires going to volume and skip for radio controls and the other three wires (assuming for CC))
Image(23).jpgImage(24).jpg

guys please help me... i'm stuck from here on. Does cruise control need to be software activated on the ECU ? since everything is there (from what i can see) will cruise control work ?

Do you know of anyone in north london area who can possibly help out ?
email is godlog1c@hotmail.com

Any help, advice or suggesstion most welcome.

Look forward to hearing from you soon

Mav

Your vehicle isn't configured for cruise control as it wasn't fitted as standard and will need to be reconfigured

You need to take it to a dealer (or someone with T4) and and get them to connect T4 to it and alter the configuration. Simple to do and should take no more than half an hour

Its the same as adding hardware to your pc, you need the software to tell it its fitted.

Thanks clutchdust,

What is T4 ? and do you know anyone around the london area who can carry out this reconfiguration for me ? and also how much approxiamately will it cost :p

T4 is the name of the land rover diagnostic computer, a few independant garages may have it but I doubt it very much.

A dealer is your best bet, as for prices, you'll have to ring a few and see, most will charge an hours labour and I know for a fact it wont take this long so be carefull and don't take any bull****, with stuff like this, they'll try anything to get your wallet open.

Clutchdust My friend,

Regarding my first post, according to information specified, would it be right to say me freelander has all the guts for cruise control and all it requires now is activation via the T4 diagnostics tool ... right ?

Also would i need to connect the cruise control button and paddle controls before having the t4 activation done ?

Thanks again for you help.

Hello anyone know of any independent Land rover specialist with the T4 diagnotics tools within or around the M25 area, please help

Yes most cars have all the wiring (Guts) already fitted, you just add the switches and then activate the relevant software with the system diagnostic tool.

Manufacturers normally just make 1 wiring loom for all the cars. People then spend ££££ adding Cruise/ Heated seats at the stealers when most of it can be done DIY very easily and at a fraction of the cost.

Thanks zippy :)

Really appreciate your help. Managed to find a local independent land rover specialist who has T4 and is willing to activate the relevant software for £45+vat

Also many thanks to Clutchdust

Quick question - is the same true for the pre-facelift Freelanders? I've got an '02 plate GS Auto, and cruise control would be lovely!

Cheers

Ben

I really don't know the answer to that question, but like me i guess you should try check whether the wiring does exist and get one of the senior member to guide you through the process.

My first description might be of some help to you

Good luck !;)

Hi Mav,

I have the same vehicle as yourself, where did you get the parts for the cruise control and how much did they cost. If not too expensive i would like cruise on mine.

Thanks in advance,
Pete.:)

Hello,

Got a little problem again, went to an independent land rover specialist and tried to activate the cruise control with the autologic system but for some reason there is no option to activate the cruise control all it days is status: INACTIVE any ideas anyone ?

thanks

Do you also require a cruise control relay?

I seem to remember this being listed a few years back on a similar thread and a quick look at a Haynes Manual shows a line on the TD4 electrical diagram for such a relay.

Will be interested in your results if this works along with a list of the parts and pices. I had a very enthusiastic Service Manager at a local LR dealer quote £ 100 plus parts to fit cruise having converted numerous Discovery TD5s but then withdrew his offer after talking to LR.

Hello,

I have one TD4 Auto, and i have your same problem.
You olso need an specific Cruise Control ECU, but i asked here in two LR dealers in Spain and they said me that the freelander cruise control doesn't work correctly.

I'm going to install a Waeco MS800 (MS-F01 (wire for accelerator), MS-BE3 switch). If Waeco cruise control works correctly, i'll conect the originales Switches (YUH 500080PUY AND YUH100740LNF)

Regards

Mike

It was imposible to install the original one:mad: .
I've jast finished the installation of the waecco cruise control ms800, it works correctly :D

Do you also require a cruise control relay?

I've read the thread and believe that a control unit is required. The ECU can then be activated. :D
It's just a theory, but I can't find part numbers for 2x different ECUs.
I have found one for a control box though it may be for an earlier model. Maybe someone can shed some light. SCB100212 50control box-auto---SCB100211 50control box-manual

A-0545G03B]Pektron Spares SCB100211 SCB100212

I still think it's feasable to install for around £120 if the interface does the job.
If not a cheaper option is to use the Waeco 50 system and use the servo to operate the throttle pedal!

I'm now gonna go digging under the dash to see if i can find somewhere to connect the interface

Looks like the interface goes under the drivers seat (under front right seat). I'll need to remove the seat and sill cover to lift the carpet and confirm though.

Hi Folks, Been watching this Cruise control thread with interest - I want one too! :D
Had a look on the Rave cd and then under the drivers seat - no box so looked around under carpets - no wiring? Under the tunnel + between the switches? Perhaps under the other seat - no wiring but there is an ECU box screwed up under the seat - too big tho', loadsa wires and it is not in the Rave cd I have either?

Have found what looks like a more recent Rave disc on fleabay - is in the post - does anyone know where the Cruise interface 'moved' to post 2003/4/5?

If I get any further I will post back the info.

You won't have one! You'll only have the wiring for it.You'll need to buy the interface and the switches.:)
Iv'e been making a few more enquiries and it might only be feasable on auto transmission models. But nothing definate from any where:confused:
