It has been diagnosed by a garage as the front transfer box but why would it do this when the clutch is pressed?
Any help much appreciated as id hate to fork out for a new box and still have the noise!

It could be related to the Haldex issue. Try pulling the Haldex fuse (rear fuse box), to see if the whine goes away.
