I have had two Freelander 1 TD4 commercials company vehicles and drove them like a bat out of hell! I had a massive area of the east of England from Ipswich to Sunderland, The first a 02 plate had no breakdowns apart from two top intercooler pipes splitting, it was still going strong when it was sold with 160,000 on the clock at three years old. The second one at did 58000 in the first year of driving it blew the turbo at 100 mph on the A1 all the oil went out of the engine down the exhaust pipe causing a smoke screen on the A1 and wrecking the engine. LandRover replaced the engine under warranty it would appear that the Landrover dealer was using cheap oil at the oil changes and three Freelanders serviced by that dealer blew their turbos, when I left the company that Freelander had 132,000 on the clock in under three years. I had no problems with gearboxes or diffs. I now have a 10 plate Freelander 2 as my private car (just bought it) I don't need 4 wheel drive, can I convert it to FWD? I know you can the MK1 Freelander it has a different 4x4 system but can it be done to the Mk2? I can do all the work myself having been a mechanic in a past life and have all the tools and a workshop.
