Gents, boot of fathers Freelander 2 is stuck and won't open. Also, car will not lock becuase of this. Is there any simple way to release manually because there may be some stuck in boot door that is causing prob. any help or suggestions welcome. rgds John
 
If it wont open using the keyfob tailgate release button. Then you need to check the fuse for the taildoor cdl.

Goto the passenger front footwell, remove a little cover that sits on the front of a white box (cjb). This will expose the internal fusebox. There is a fuse on the lower row a few in from the bottom left. It will be a 7.5amp fuse. Check this to see if its blown.

If it is , let us know !
 
Thanks, but got it solved. Just pushed door at same time pressing button. Boot popped open. Prob solved. Cleaned dirt and dust from seals and hope it helps avoid prob in future. Rgds john

i had the same problem, mine was the fuse thanks so much, life saver

my 07 Freelander 2 tailgate became increasingly difficult to open using the switch in the numberplate light unit. I removed the switch by taking off the interior panel then removing the 10mm nuts holding the light/switch unit to the tailgate and unplugging the electrical connector. I found the switch unit full of crud in spite of the rubber cover. I gave it a good clean and some lubrication but found the unit still did not open the tailgate if reconnected - so I replaced the microswitch in the switch unit by one bought at Maplins. The unit now works perfectly.

Hey, could you say what microswitch exactly? Cause my tailgate won't open either from time to time (type of usage, the weather, humidity, temperature, inclination of the car.....it all makes no difference. It's completely random it seems). Sometimes it opens just a little bit allowing an alert to popup in the display that the tailgate is open, but not enough to actually let me be able to open it up....
 
The microswitch is in the exterior handle. Its the button you press under the rubber cover. Not sure if its available separately, but they do get water ingress into them. You'll know if the switch is working or not as you'll hear the click.
 
Please tell us the fuse number and what the label marks it as to give us half a chance of helping you :)

This is an ongoing problem and now I realise it seems to be the switch (previously I blamed the old man for messing it up!). The button to open on the tailgate sometimes works but only about once out of three times. I have then tried the key fob but it also has a prob and does not seem to activate the release? Any suggestions or ideas? thanks John
 
Hi buy a new switch for the tailgate handle and replace it.

Also try pressing the lock and unlock buttons together in the car on the dash as this should pop the tailgate latch.

If this doesn't work it could your latch which is playing ip

I tried all what is suggested but still my boot is stuck. I removed the panel, unscrewed the latch from the door, opened the door but I still have the latch and the panel hooked to the striker .Is there any way to manually/or not open the latch. c.f. pics.

problem on mine today, pleased to say now fixed. Was fuse F25 in box in passenger foot well blown. Replaced with spare from under bonnet fuse box
 
This is likely to blow due to the fuel filler lock actuator overloading the circuit (fuse shared with the latch supply)

There's a new filler bowl available with a revised actuator to overcome this issue

Mine went today and it was F25 , a 10amp fuse. Solved the problem. Maybe a different fuse in Australia, although you wouldn't think so. My 7.5 as above is for the interior lights, F17.
 
Just had the same problem with tailgate not opening and tailgate open message and unable to lock car, tried all the methods mentioned. pushing bottom in lifting, pushing from inside but nothing would move it. I could hear the switch click but not the latch. I was then told by someone to press the "Lights On" button on the keyfob then while the lights were on operate the latch as usual, didn't think it would work but it did and tailgate opened as normal then when I shut tailgate the message had gone and car locked normally. The thing I have found is that if I try to open the tailgate as normal it won't budge but the error message and locking problem come back until I repeat the Lights On procedure. The other thing I have found is if I use this method when the car is locked the alarm goes off, so have to unlock first then open tailgate.
This has got me stumped as the switch and solenoid work as they should when this is done but not when the "Normal" method is used. Anyone got any ideas or the schematics of the electrics, or the Harry Potter book of magic spells.

Update on this, after a long think about it, if the switch and the solonoid work when Lights On pressed, then what is stopping them otherwise. After a bit of investigation I found that the towbar (Which was fitted when I bought it) is not using the dedicated wiring harness, it has been connected into the wiring somehow , have not removed all the insulation tape yet, and has a separate beeper/relay box. I suspect this is causing the problem and will go and see a towbar expert in the week. the wiring harness looks expensive though.

Hi All, I have a very similar issue. Car will not lock from fob (sounds horn when i press 'lock' button). Display on dash says 'tailgate open', but cannot for the life of me open it manually to sort out the issue. The other issue is that 3 internal lights (drivers footwell, passenger's footwell and boot) are all on and draining my battery. I'm a self-confessed technical luddite who also suffers from limited common sense and practical intelligence - a guy who's clearly going places I hear you think.... - so when i felt quite proud of myself for figuring out how to remove the plastic cap on the fuse box, you can imagine my mental paralysis when i found myself staring at this! (picture attached). So, my long-winded question is - how do i tell if a fuse has gone or not? Many thanks in advance :)

Hi, I'm new here but this problem occurred on my Freelander 2 today! I could not lock the doors as the display said the tailgate was open. However, as with others here the tailgate is jammed shut.
In desperation as it was getting dark when I got home I tried disconnecting the battery for a minute.
When I reconnected the battery and closed the bonnet i was able to lock the car with the remote. I unlocked the car ok but when I tried to re-lock, the old problem was back.
I did the battery trick again just to secure the car tonight and will try the above ideas in the morning.
