I've just bought a 54k Freelander S2 2.2 TD4 Auto - it drives okay but it seems to have a higher level of road noise than I expected especially on poor tarmac surfaces. I dont think there are any wheel bearing noises but depending on the road surface there is a lot of general road noise - is this normal?
The tyres are due for replacement soon so the fact that they are down to 2 to 2.5 mm might be the culprit. Switching the radio on drowns out the noise just not sure if it's the nature of the beast.
The engine is amazingly quiet compared to our old Jeep WJ - the engine noise on the Jeep drowned out any road noises.
Am I being paranoid or are they generally poor for road noises?

Tyres can make a big difference to noise level, so does putting the seats down and removing the parcel shelf

The main problem with the FL2, is the mechanics are so quiet, road noise becomes very evident, especially over some types of road surface.

Mine is the same, even more so now I've rebuilt the rear diff. I couldn't hear tyre noise when the rear diff was howling, but now it's quiet, all I can hear is tyre noise changing over different surfaces, and occasionally the turbo spooling up on throttle, if the road surface is a quiet one.
