For a while now I have had a problem where the car would drop into reduced power mode. When checking the fault codes it would show an overboost error. I got so that I had a Bluetooth ob2 reader and an app on my phone to clear the error while out.
I carried out a clean service on the turbo vanes, that sorted it for a while, then it reappeared, so I did the service again, but still the problem persisted. I changed the throttle body and again for a while it was fine, until we did a run south on the A1 and 6 miles after setting of we dropped to limp mode again.
I have now traced the fault to a faulty MAP sensor, this is located next to the EGR valve on the intake manifold. Looks like the diaphragm on the old is cooked, heat and oil, so it was giving false readings making the ECU think the boost pressure was too high for the given manifold intake pressure.
Land rover diagnosed the fault to be a new turbo required. Cost difference new turbo £1000+ whilst the MAP sensor was £36 from Euro car parts.
