Silly question but does the freelander 1td4 have to be at a certain temperature before the air conditioning kicks in , over the winter mine didn't engage on the clutch so I presumed it was low on gas, or the pump was kaput, the other week it started working when the weather was pretty warm, last week loads of rain it didn't work (clutch not engaged, today just started the car to keep battery topped up the air con is now working, so is it a temperature thing or intermittent fault when the weather is crap

Sounds like the gas pressure is low. Low pressure prevents compressor clutch from activating to prevent compressor damage.

If it is only just low then I guess hot temperatures could allow it to make the required pressure and operate the switch and then the clutch.

Cheers @andyfreelandy
When it was working today its not that cold so maybe it is low gas pressure thats the problem, or electrical fault when its been raining perhaps
