Hi all

I have a Freelander 1.

I have done a lot of reading on here regards the prop shaft and the VCU unit, mine needs bearing etc fixing on it and I have to take off the prop shaft and leave it with a local prop shaft firm to repair for me. In the mean time is there any harm with me driving the car as a 2 wheel drive vehicle while the prop is being repaired ?

I would appreciate everyones thoughts.

from what i have read on here it will be ok
Just be careful in case the vehicle handles and performs different :beer2:

From what I have read a few weeks of driving wont make any difference but I wanted the experts (yourselves) opinions.

Just spoke to a prop shaft firm local to me and they told me just remove the prop and leave it off if I am only doing urban driving.

I don't off road or tow anything so I may just leave it off and save my money.

put the money into the car and look after it 4wd is better in most situations wet/grass/snow etc etc...for the sake of £250 for a reconed VCU from Bell its worth doing ;)
 
If you remove the prop you will need to advise yer insurance as it's a mod. Most want to know, but don't charge more.

I've run mine for a while with no prop. I don't like the way it handles but some do. It's down to personal choice.
 
I`m no expert at all on freelanders, but did not the engine a gearbox start of in a front wheel drive rover ?
and did they market some front drive only freelanders ??
 
I had to take my prop off to have the VCU sorted. I ran around for 3 weeks like that. Couldn't wait to get it back on! The old girl didn't feel right.

Original L series diesel and k series 1.8 petrol were from rover. Later v6 petrol was rover anorl. Later Td4 diesel was bmw.

hmmm, think you`ll find they made a series with just rear wheel drive :eek:
never believed it myself, until the girl who I worked with at the time said hers was 2 wheel drive,
and I looked under the front..
just a tube looking front axle :confused:
