Hello,
I'm new to this so please hang in there. I have had my Freelander 1 since new 2005. I've been reading all the threads/posts about the Tailgate window problems but can't find one that's similar to my problem. I use the rear door a lot for my work but recently when I close the tailgate door pretty much every time the window goes down. I then have to go to switch in front of car next to drivers seat and hit that many times before window goes up. I can then hit that switch many times and window goes up and down no problem. Then when I close tailgate door next time the window goes down and the go through the whole procedure again....it's doing my head in....any ideas?.....Bombalini
 
So the window is up.

You open the door and the window drops a little.

You subsequently close the door and the window lowers fully rather than going back up?
 
Hi, disconnect the battery negative terminal for a minute & re-connect, then use the interior switch to raise the window, it may beep & drop again but just use the switch to raise it again as it's just calibrating itself (that's presuming you haven't already tried this).
Make sure you have your radio code before disconnecting the battery.

I don't know enough about the operation of the lifting logic and mechanisms to know an exact reason for this.

If you'd like some 'light' reading before someone with more knowledge replies, you could have a read of the LR Rave Workshop Manual. It generally gives very good descriptions of how stuff like this operates and would give you a clue as to what is going on - eg with sensors etc. There's info on downloading and running it here..

It sounds like there are sensors in the motor that may be affecting what you are experiencing. Maybe they are getting dislodged by the shock of the door closing of summat.

In a Veganesque way (I'm a convert - so you bloody well will be to) if you get no better advice, I'd say replace the regulator. My problems were different to yours, but installing a replacement I have found is very simple :D

Of course if the fault is in the loom (ie the wiring to the motor), then that won't fix it. I think that unlikely, especially as it works fine other than when closing the door, but the loom does flex as the door's opened and closed, so not out of the realms of possibility.

Hope you get some better advice from someone other than a vegan regulator changing warrior. :D
 
Hi, as above but before you order a replacement regulator I would remove the tailgate door card & just check the cables aren't fraying & the regulator bolts/nuts are tight along with the bolts that clamp the actual window.
 
Actually, is this a 5 door or 3?

If its a 3 door, isn't there a sensor that the roof is installed? If the roof is removed, does the car drop the window? Could that sensor be faulty, maybe getting dislodged as the door closes.

Good question, we'll await the answer with baited breath:):).
 
It sounds like it could be the cable catch mechanism, which is part of the cable. It's function is to allow the window to drop a fraction and stop solid. There's a sliding part of the cable outer assembly that is responsible for this partial window drop, which could be playing up.
Alternatively it cod be the position sensor in the motor has gone out of alignment or failed completely?
 
Hello,
I changed the wires this weekend and had same problem. Had to drill a hole and insert a kingpin in the catch mechanism stopping it from going back.
For me that sorted the window not going down when I pressed the handle.
 
I've been having a similar problem, where the window will drop down to open the door, but then will not go back up when the door is shut. When it does it, I can open the window fully with the interior switch but it will not go upwards at all.
I'm pretty sure it's down to the micro switch that senses when the tailgate is shut playing up, as I've also had the alarm going off and sometimes the light on the dashboard says a door is open.
So if the switch doesn't say that the door is shut, the window will not lift.
I think if I replace the micro switch all the problems will be cured (fingers crossed).
 
Here are a couple of things to look for
Does the interior light go off when the door is closed? If not it's probably the lock mechanism.
Does the handle feel right? The springs can fail and the handle rattles about so the door is opening and closing randomly.
