Hi everyone,

I'm hoping that someone may be able to shed some light on my 2.0 diesel L series 1999 Freelander.

When turning the key there is a rapid series of clicks (almost like the sound of flicking through a deck of cards) and the ignition lights flicker but the engine isn't turning over.

I suspect starter motor problems? I had trouble with worn solenoid contacts about 6 months ago and replaced the contacts along with the ignition switch and replaced the old battery with a new one for good measure, it has been fine since so, hopefully can rule out those fairly common issues.

I would be grateful of any advice or insight anyone could offer, Thanks

Sounds like your battery if flat. You need to volage check the battery first. Then try jump starting and check the alternator output. Could also be battery terminals loose or corroded or earth strap loose or corroded

Rapid clicking usually denotes a flat battery. Try a booster pack if it starts it's new battery time.
