Hi Nodge68.
Will try manual 1st gear ,sounds about right with the box dropping from 2nd to 1st,sounds & feels horrible, will it damage the box, also do you know if it can be fixed ,thanks for the reply
Hi rob bellJatco is the manufacturer of your automatic gearbox
Cheers rob, will try nodgeUnfortunately can't help you there: mines a PG1 manual.
Nodge can probably help here?
Hi nodgeThe box TCM (ECU) shouldn't allow damage to the box. However dropping from 2nd to 1st at full throttle, must put huge strain on the clutches. When did it last have a fluid change? The Jatco auto is quite fluid fussy. New fluid does seem to cure all kinds off issues with it.
Hi nodge
Any ideas how to change gearbox fluid ,& best fluid to use plze
Thanks nodgeEasy. There's a guide on here somewhere. I use Carlube ATF-U for the Freelander Jatco box.
Hi nodgeThanks nodge
Will have a look
Hi nodge
I took my freelander to DLS (Derbyshire landrover spealists)they took it for a spin ,put dianostic tool on it,told me there's no electrical fault on the gearbox showing up,they said it is the valve block on the gearbox what is the problem, they don't fix automatic gearboxes, told me I need to take it to a automatic gearbox specialist.
Have u heard ov this problem before, any info on this would b grateful
HiIf it's not showing any codes, then there's nothing wrong with the solenoid valves. It's best to give the box a couple of fluid changes' 1000 miles apart. You'll need 2 gallons of Carlube ATF-U at about £50. This should improve box shift quality and clean out dirt too.
