Does anyone now where the pipe which comes from the header tank top hose goes to. It's metal and runs across the back of engine before disappearing down out of sight. Does it connect to the coolant assembly pipes or is it actually part of them. HELP .....
 
Metal coolant pipe? I think all the 'pipes' on the coolant system on my '99 diesel L Series are 'rubber' flexible hoses.

Are you sure you're not looking at an AC pipe?

The AC pipes aren't near the coolant reservoir on a TD4, as they're on the other side of the engine bay. On the TD4, the metal PS pipes run near coolant reservoir, but without more information or pictures, it's all just guessing.
 
Is he talking about where it goes to the back of engine then connects to the cooler plate for the IRD?
 
I recon a pic is needed.

IIRC the pipework for the IRD cooler is paralleled to the cabin heater matrix (at least on my L Series) and the EGR has cooling also - all round that area. Lots of cooling stuff going on round there.
