morning all, Yesterday our Freelander 1 TD4 2005 on way home from town- so the engine is warm cut out going into the doctors car park started up straight away idled fine at around the usual 800 RPM we then drove home fine cut out in drive. When I started up again idle was all over the place and then cut out (if it was petrol engine it sounded like a misfire/rough running) I was wondering about a blocked air filter But have a feeling Iam wrong. One other thing we had to have a fallen tree removed the car was covered in Saw dust would this have any bearing as it happened after that.

The rail pressure sensor is the first place to check, especially for corrosion on the connector.

As above check the rail pressure sensor and it's wiring, remove the plug and spray some electrical contact cleaner into the plug and the end of the sensor.

Them maybe do a leak back test on the injectors.

When was the fuel filter last changed?

That is a good question its why I mentioned the air filter, the fuel pump was chaged around a year ago aparently as previous owner broke down wether they changed filter at the same time, as its with the pump I would have thought so what is a leak back test please??

would the pressure rail pressure sensor be under the cover?
the fuel rail pressure sensor, be directly under those white cable ties.
[ at right in pic, on the air intake ducting ]
you'll see it if you remove that a.i. duct.
that small cable i've got secured to the a.i. .. be the wiring to the f.r.press. sensor.

Thanks for that, Now I got a can of electrical connection cleaner and the landy has decided to run ok again! should I still continue with connection cleaning? I will also change air filter have a feeling not been changed by last owner and I am still wondering if some sawdust has got in ( car was smothered in sawdust after tree removal and it was after that problem started)
