Hi i am new to this site and need a little advice.
I have a 2006 freelander 1 which is a 3 door.
My tailgate window was starting to lift the roof slightly when going up and before i could git round to fix it, it shattered.
I managed to get a replacement from a scrapyard and had it fitted by them but after a few days it shattered as well.
I had already changed the winding mechanism about 2 years ago and there was no problem but it was only a cheap one of ebay for about £38, "still it lasted 2 years".
My question is can these be regulated and if so why did it go out of regulation in the first place.
I intend to fit second hand genuine landrover part as soon as i can get one and hope my next glass [which i already have will last a bit longer.

I've never heard of the glass shattering under motor power, as it doesn't seem the motor would have enough power to do that.

I'm thinking that there's something sharp and hard that the glass is pressing against, maybe at the top .

Hi Nodge68, thankyou for your reply, I thought of that and so did the guy at the breakers who fitted the second glass.
I and he did the same in checking the channel for anything out of the ordinary but found nothing just as I did.
Besides that doesn't explain why the window should be trying to lift the roof a bit.
I will check again for something at the top but I don't hold out much hope as both me and the breaker gave it a good check when we fitted the second glass.

I believe a lot of electric windows know to cut power on a voltage change when the window won't move any further.

The back window on a Freelander though is 'calibrated' - when the battery is disconnected and reconnected the window is fully lowered and must be raised manually to complete the calibration.

I don't know what the window is calibrated to, it is probably worth having a read of the Rave workshop manual, it will almost certainly say how it does the calibration and it is presumably with sensors and either the sensors have been moved out of position or the glass is not mounted correctly to the frame - eg to high. There is info on downloading the Rave manual here...
