Edit:

After a lot of searching online I think me book on Freelanders has what is probably the most accurate set of figures produced.

Freelander 1:
Sales figures per calendar year - all built in Solihull
Yearly sales figures don't include CKD Completely Knocked Down Freelander 1's exported in kit form for build overseas.

1996 = 108 (all pre production)
1997 = 3,679
1998 = 60,571
1999 = 70,309
2000 = 71,864
2001 = 71,589
2002 = 72,143
2003 = 59,876
2004 = 61,272
2005 = 41,796
2006 = 21,066
CKD = 13,647 (built in Malaysia, South Africa and Thailand)
Total = 547,920

Freelander 2:

Sales figures per calendar year.
Figures are global so this includes Freelander 2's built in Halewood (UK) and Pune (India).
It's believed these figures also include CKD Completely Knocked Down Freelander 2's exported in kit form for build overseas.

2006 = 1,355 (4,622 built)
2007 = 66,582 (76,585 built)
2008 = 58,089 (59,638 built)
2009 = 45,221 (35,502 built)
2010 = 54,833
2011 = 51,954
2012 = 48,332
2013 = 57,691
2014 = 56,622
2015 = 3,278
Total = 443,957

I don't know how many are still working. Probably greater than 95%. I was just happy to find out how many were made. I looked for this figure before and couldn't find it. The figure would include all exports I would assume. Over 8.5 years that would average around 63k per year. I didn't think the figure was that high.

Must have included exports. Would not think there are anywhere near 500,000 hairdressers in the UK. :D:D

I see there's some tratter's that want to be Freelander's anorl. They must be secretly converting them.

Edit: More accurate figures in the first post in this fred

Need to find out how many Freelander 2's were built'd now. I have this info so far:

worldwide FL2 sales figures from wiki
2009 37,909
2010 54,833
2011 51,954
2012 48,332
2013 57,691
2014 56,622
2015 3,278
total 310,619

I found from this link:

http://www.tatamotors.com/investor/volumes/
http://corp-content.tatamotors.com.s3-ap-s...une161.xls

2007/08
2008/09 38,541
2010/11 57,031
2011/12 46,977
2009/10 44,591
2012/13 51,986
2013/14 56,712
2014/15 38,729
2015/16 1,385
total = 335,952

In 2012 they hit 300,000 so I would eggspect the total to be greater than 400,000.

Sadly, it won't be anywhere close to 95%. Not for the 1.8 petrol version at any rate... :( Mine was bought to be brought back from the brink of death - the majority seem to be scrapped or broken for spares (in the UK at least).

FL1 was Europe's best selling "softroader" for a good while wasn't it? Saw quite a few in Portugal recently...

Yep, round here a 1.8 with head gasket failure get weighed in.
Breakers near me was full of Freelanders and Jeep WJs/KJs.

Where is your breakers David? In the metropolitan city state of London, there are very few good old fashioned breakers yards! :(

You're lucky to be living somewhere civilised - wow, what a find: a 4x4 breaker! Looks like a Disco 2 in the background...

That's a photo from their site.
A few D2s there at the weekend, Td5s and V8s. Loads of Jeeps though, and a good few Mk3 Shoguns.
Surprising number of P38s.

I guess P38s are pretty complex and with dirt cheap values, many won't bother to fix.

I quite like the idea of a Disco or P38 as my next project car... :)

I find the D2 really hard to get into and out of - the wheelbase is too short for the body.
I'd quite like a P38. Actually that's not fair. I'd really like a P38. Completely impractical really - the diesel is painfully slow and the V8s are painfully thirsty. But I still would....

The D2 is presumably the same as a D1, I don't remember problems with access/exit - but its been a while since I shifted to a decent motor ;)

I know what you mean about the P38 - having had a V8 I wouldn't entertain another, but even given all the nightmare P38 stories, a diesel is strangely attractive - but not as an every day runner.
