The missus has a freelander which has been sat on a relatives farm since mid last year. I've a thread on here about my what my intentions with it are.

I went to start it a few weeks back and the battery was obviously dead, tried jump starting it but nothing happened. She's never had a fob and hasn't had an issues starting the car before now.

The doors unlock as they should which deactivates the alarm (whilst being jumped), all the electrics work as they should when the key is turned to position 2 but the red LED on the Rev counter stays on solid. The when the key is turned to start the engine absolutely nothing happens.

I've stripped and cleaned any earths i can find, i've tried using a spare earth jump cable from the chassis to engine bay to see if that was the issue, all got no change. I've bridged the connectors on the starter motor and whilst being jumped, clicks away at a rapid pace, you can hear what i think is the stepper motor when the ignition is turned to position 2, and after trying for a while you get a faint smell of petrol. I've tried a trick which can be used on Rover immobilizers by removing the negative terminal from the battery creating a few sparks from connector to battery - terminal and then refitting with key set to ignition 2, this can trip the immobilizer and let the engine turn over, not sure if it could work with freelanders though but worth a try.

With a couple of hours of trying over 2 days the engine has coughed twice, the engine does not try turning over at all besides those 2 split second instances and as mentioned, the only way to get the starter working is by bridging it.

Anyone got any clues to what the issue could most likely be?

Cheers, Dave.

it's immobilised

Cheers, i thought as much but i believe the 27vt has been changed at some point so it might be a case of replacing the ecu, ccu and fobs to get it back up and running, saving getting it programmed.

Does anyone know if the MEMS 2 from a rover/MGF can be coded to the 27VT & Fob? The Rovers use the 5AS system and i will be looking at converting the freelander to VVC, i've read a couple of mgf forums about the mems 1.9 from a freelander being coded to a 5as for use in the mgf. The other, and probably most likely option is to run a decoded mems 2.

Cheers, Dave.

If it's a pre 2001 abd you don't have a correctly coded fob, it will never start. You can overcome the immobiliser by inputting the 4 digit override code if you have it.

It is pre 2001 but i'm pretty sure the 27vt was changed last year when the car wouldn't start.

I'm assuming you're talking about the EKA? Would this still work with the 27vt being different?

Cheers,
Dave.
