Hi,

Looking at some past posts I am pretty sure I have an issue with my fuel pump. I have a noise that sounds like a mossie plugged into an amplifier coming from the drivers side rear wheel well. The sound can be heard very loud at times from the inside and generally gets louder as I drive.

Ok, so here is the thing, what is the general price of a new fuel pump (a genuine Land Rover part) I have seen a wide variety of pumps available at various prices from £150 - £400. My Freelander is an 05 and has done about 80k. I think I can probably tackle changing it over but I am not sure if A. I can afford to do it right now and B. The exact part number I need to ensure I get the right pump.

Another question, would this effect the acceleration when pulling away and/or fuel economy?

Any help or advice much appreciated.

Noise is a good sign that the low pressure (LP) fuel pump is on way out. It won't generally affect fuel economy but can affect power, especially if driving up hills. Sometimes it will put the MIL on as the demand for power, outstrips fuel supply available from the failing pump.
Cost wise, don't buy cheap Chinese pumps. Get one listed as OE or genuine LR. Cheap pumps have a very short life.

Thank you Nodge, good to hear that it is worth avoiding the Chinese crap which I am beginning to learn! Is this eBay link the sort of thing, is this eBay link any good? it looks like a Landrover part but I don't think it is, seems to be made by Bearmach OEM?

Bearmach don't make the pumps. They just stick there name on pumps they supply. They do give a decent warranty though.

Pierburg are the pumps FL1 should have in my opinion, make sure they are genuine though, ask questions before purchasing, some second hand pierburg can be found for a minimal price and last quite a long time, new ones vary in cost link below.

Is this the fuel pump by the rear wheel? I have noticed mine makes like a tapping noise at times

That could be the dosing pump for the FBH, also known as a "tick-tick" pump.
