Hello everyone,
new here and also new to Landys!
can anyone explain free wheeling hubs to me?
does it mean getting out to engage 4WD?
please help!
CHEERS.
:clap2:

fwh are just a means of disengaging drive shafts from wheel hubs ,supposed to save wheels driving diff and prop when on the road in 2wd to save fuel but amount wouldnt be that noticeable ,and does mean you have to get out of vehicle to engage /disengage ,need to be run a few miles reulary in any case engaged so as to lube upper swivel pin which gets oil from throw of uj/drive shaft

Fwh disengage the hubs from the half shafts so when youre in 2wd the wheels arent driving all the drive chain back to the transfer box.
Yes you have to get all the way out of the seat to engage 4wd

Dont know about fuel but disengaging hubs increases my top speed on the motorway by about 5%, more when towing

You can leave them engaged as long as the 4wd leaver is up when off roading juist push yellow know down and when back on road pull it back up no need to get in and out

just to be clear theyre only fitted to part time four wheel drives like the old leaf sprung series landrovers, all the newer coil sprung defenders, discos range rovers are permenant 4wd.

daihatsu fourtraks with part time 4wd also had freewheeling hubs, the older ones are manual so you have to get out to lock the hubs , the later ones were automatic
