Can anyone tell me if it's possible to fit Free Wheel Hubs to a Defender 90 2.5 turbo diesel (89 F reg).
If so, then where would I purchase them from.
Thanks.

Welcome.
I looked into getting them when I got my Landy & most things I read both on t'internet & in magazines said don't bother. For the amount of wear & friction they reduce & the hassle of remembering to have them switched on or off, it just wasn't worth the expense.

I'd guess you'll get a variety of opinions, but I decided to spend my money on other stuff.

Regards,
Marcus.

No personal experience myself, but most of the bods in EMLRA seem to think they're a waste of time too.

Anyone?

I dont see how FWH could work on a defender. Surely you would have to drive around with the centre diff locked? Defeats the object?

If im missing the point, could someone please explain

I make you right m8. The series landys are selectable between 4wd and 2wd so if FWH are fitted and a series is in 2WD with the hubs are dis-engaged then the front half-shafts, diff and prop remain stationary. I understood it that this is to aid fuel economy (God knows, with a 2.25 petrol I need all the help I can get with fuel economy)

The Defenders are full time 4WD so I can't see that FWH's would be an advantage.

Aaaah, good point Shedster & Fired up chap. See, goes to show what I know: Little about III's & a big fat zero about defenders.........grimble, grumble, bah, Defender, disco, freelandything, not proper............!

God forbid I end up in the Rangie forum again, they're ALIENS!
