I’m looking for somewhere to start on resolving an ongoing problem with our 1.8 freelander, had it nearly a year & covered 15,000 miles. Its always had a on & off (intermitting) flat spot around 2500 rpm, its like its starving of fuel then around 3000rpm takes off, although sometimes it just keeps holding back like the timing is out.

I just can’t put my finger on the fault, it had the headgasket done 3 year ago & never loses a drop of water or overheats & loves motorway driving?? but when your driving local, knocking about it runs like sh*t at times.

Certainly sounds sensor related. If memory serves the crank position sensors are known to be problematic. I've seen this kind of fault on here before and one quite recently as well. Try doing a search.
