I took the dash out today. What a nightmare job.

A few queries:

1. I am planning to replace all 3 blend motors, but not sure whether to get Britpart, or would even second hand (90 warranty) be better? The OEMs were not great, so maybe the Britparts will be no worse, probably better than reusing old ones.
2. The flaps themselves turn relatively freely, except the front flaps which are really stiff. Prising the casing apart frees them up a little so the self tapper fix may do the job there. How about putting silicone or nylon grease on the gears and shaft? I cannot even get the gear off of that shaft, whereas the others came of easily.

3. The vertical air duct had been cut before at some point. Any idea where to get one? Part number AWR2719. Nothing much on ebay UK.

Already done the O rings a couple of years ago and there are no signs of leaks from the heater.
I do have leaks from the filter boxes again but will do the usual clean up and replace and reseal there.

Cheers in advance.

Everyone says if it moves Don't use Sh1tparts. Same blend motors are used on some Peugeot models, don't know if they are cheaper.I have one in the garage somewhere and it may have a part number on it

If you move them it can be a real tricky business getting them straight again.

Wouldn't dream of touching ****part when they are so hard to get to.

Looks like it is best to go for some good second hand ones with a 90 day warranty then rather than Britpart.
Having said that, what if they do go wrong at any time soon. It is probably worth going for genuine ones for some (albeit small) peace of mind.
I better order these I think: http://www.island-4x4.co.uk/range-rover-heater-blend-motors-valeo-stc3259g-p-28492.html

Anyone else bought these?

Cheers

Yes they are the genuine parts. Only way to free off rear distribution flap is to remove heater unit and strip it. Gear cannot be removed from case unless bar is pulled out of gear first. Also quadrant sometimes seizes. If you remove quadrant it MUST be correctly aligned in both directions with marks on front and rear distribution flap gears.

Ah, ok. I thought the whole thing may need removing and striping then a reassemble.

Do you know of any instructions for this on line? Or any tips? (thanks for tip on quadrant) Rave seems to treat it essentially as a non-serviceable unit bar the obvious replaceable items.

There is no AC refrigerant in it at the moment, so I guess just drain the coolant and remove the entire unit. Good time to change the AC O rings too as the heater is already done.

You will have to remove the aircon pipes from the expansion valve. Then aircon can be removed from heater after it is out and heater unit split. Dash to heater unit foam seal will be shot if it is anything like mine. Take photos of quadrant gear relationship before you strip it. There is a mark on quadrant that must engage with mark on front flap gear when turned to right and then must match mark on rear flap gear when turned to left. You will see what i mean. Think there is a dash removal guide on Rangerovers.net
