Hello all.
I can not make my mind up if I have a faulty/ open thermostat on my Freelander. The heater as I recall last winter was not great. Also, when the heater is put on, but not up to full temp, the revs rise slightly. Which tells me although the temp gauge says near normal its not.

My question is, will it do any harm to do the THO1489 mod if the original thermostat is only slow to open or staying partially open?

Would welcome all advice on this. Thanks in advance for your time on this.

Cheers Gary.

When you say the revs rise, is this not because the aircon was switched on and then activated when you turned on the fan?

Pretty sure the ECU will raise the revs slightly when the a/c is on.

Not a TD4 owner, but from threads on here, your motor sounds pretty normal. Which is why people do the mod, to get more heat into the engine and heater.

Hi Gary.
Yes perfectly fine to do the inline Gates stat, the original stat starts to open to early thus stopping the engine getting up to full temp, once you do the inline stat mod you will know the difference, you may even get a bit MPG

Hello all.
Thanks for your replies. GrumpyGel.. There's no belt on the a/c at the mo, but will check its not switched on.

Arctic2. I've already obtained a stat and will go ahead and fit this weekend.
Thanks again all.
Gary.

Hello all.
Finally got around to doing this mod today. And what a transformation. I have a heater that's hot! And when I put it on the rev's don't rise as if the engine has not reached full temp.
A big thanks as always for the advice given on this forum. It really is the best!

Cheers Gary.
