Hi guys,

My Freelander 1 (facelift '04) has developed a loud and annoying rattle from the tailgate / rear door. It's actually the rear window, constantly wobbling and rattling, even though is shut and seated correctly at the top. My pet mechanic says it needs a new seal, and that LR don't make them anymore. I'm dubious as the base of the window has about an inch of play in it where it comes out of the top of the door (when door open). Surely a mere seal wouldn't counter that.

I've been driving round with 3 toilet roll tubes folded up and jammed inside the wide base. It stops must of the noise but doesn't completely eradicate it (country lanes - arrgh!). Worried they may be damaging the seal that is there.

Any thoughts / advice?

Sounds like the glass plastic guides have worn and are loose on the runners allowing the glass to flop about.
Simplest is to fit a replacement window regulator. You can reuse the old motor.
About £30 if I recall correctly.
Also, while doing it, check for any other loose bits in the door, cables etc which should be held by clips to the door panel.
