I've just completed replacing the Fuel Filter on my FL1 TD4 (2006). It was the last thing on my servicing list of things to do, and what a difference it has made. I'm guessing the removed unit wasn't as good as it should have been as when I test drove the car afterwards it went like the proverbial-of-a-shovel. And I thought it was good before... , it's even better now!
The task of replacement is a trifle difficult, especially as I had to lie beneath the car with it on a jack supported by axle-stands. The hardest part was removing the fuel pipes at each end of the Filter unit. I must have pigs-tits for fingers, because that's how it seemed as I pressed the slippery buttons to release the pipes. However, it's done and has made a big difference. And even though the car's servicing-record states it should have been done, it's one of those horrid jobs that is almost impossible to prove if it was or not. There are many of these servicing jobs that garages can get away with, and this is one of 'em. I like to believe that garages do what they're paid for, but from what I've seen it appears to be otherwise.
Anyway, replace the Fuel-Filter, and feel the extra G-Force as you accelerate from a standstill. It's almost as if my car has ReHeat. Jet talk.

My next, and final project, apart from fitting a bespoke Headlight Washing System - yet to do, is to strip all the brakes and service them to lubricated & adjusted perfection. I've already replaced the front-disks & pads, so the complete calipers will be getting my undivided attention - as will the rear brakes. I have a suspicion the rear-brake shoes have been replaced with something a bit larger diameter (254mm needed - maybe 260mm fitted) than required. When I've previously cleaned and adjusted them, it was only the leading & trailing edges that were in contact with the drum, thus reducing the surface contact for braking. I'll keep you all informed how that goes. I'll be taking measurements. The parts are ordered and I'm just waiting for them to arrive.

Enjoy your Freelander. I do. It's not just a hobby - it's a passion. :) DSCF0257.JPG
