So I found this guide Heated Seat Repair Operations about fixing heated seats - basically I think the seat base element has gone in my drivers seat, but I reckon the back rest is probably OK.

I've checked the fuse (fine) and the passenger heated seat and cigarette lighter both work (same fuse/relay I believe) so it must be in the seat itself.

Following the above guide (albeit for a P38) I tried the paperclip trick that chap mentions - but all that happened when switching the heated seat on was a blown fuse.

Anyone else know if it's possible to bypass the seat base element so just the back rest heats up? Failing that, is it easy to repair/replace the heated element(s)?

Cheers!

If it's the same as a P38 then it's a bit of a palaver getting into the seat but dead easy to solder a bit of wire across the break (s) in the element. When I did mine I tracked down some thermostatic switches that were a fair bit hotter than the standard ones.

Roast nuts - lovely.

Trick when re-building the seats, don't re-use the wire rings in the upholstery, use cable ties, put them on loose until you've got a complete line on then tighten them, it's a lot easier.

though cable ties will break,,,and dont set the temp switch too hot if going adjustable...cos it melts the foam..dooh..
