hi,
newbie here again, and as the walrus said, the time has come [to change them tyres].
I've read in various places, that you buy a couple of new tyres, bung them on the rear, and move the old rear ones to the front.... however, I've now been offered a deal on 4 new tyres, and wondering if okay to go for all at once?

thanking you all in advance,

Jim

4 new tyres is the ideal. Moving the backs to the front is the way to deal with uneven wear and avoid throwing 2 tyres with plenty of life left....that's all

If the deal is worth it take it and if you have the space back home keep the good ones or even use one for your' spare if it's better than that one you could even sell the god ones as part worn provided their decent enough;).

You're probably aware if you've been researching Freelanders but it is a gamble to only replace 2. You have to make sure the rolling circumference of the tyres is the same - and I think the only way to do it with confidence is to use the same make/model of tyre that you're leaving on the car. I supose that would also extend to using differently worn tyres on front and back. This all assumes of course that your Freelander still runs 4WD. If you run different diameter tyres the VCU locks up and kills your IRD = expensive fix. Cheaper to get those other 2 tyres in the first place. I have first hand experience as I had an underinflated tyre on my Freelander and it killed my IRD.

Also if you've got 2 reasonable tyres and only replacing 2, make sure they are not end-of line. I got 2 new Goodyear Wranglers (to match what was on the car), then needed to replace another only to find the size was discontinued here in NZ - so have to replace 4 even though 2 were almost new.
