Starting a new thread for those of you that contributed on the old one, though asking a more direct question made more sense.

So after investigations I have found my leaking pipe and decided frankly that I can live without the ACE.

What is involved with the fitting of the pulley wheel, I understand the ARB etc but not the pulley wheel.

I guess I need to remove the Fan and maybe make some room upfront, then take the belt of, then the pump off. Does the pulley wheel fit in the old pump mounting bolt holes?. And then will I need a specific V8 non ACE, AirCon belt?.

thanks all

are there any guides to this anywhere. And does anyone want working ace parts?

Shroud, then fan off. Use the correct spanners as its a lot easier. Belt off, tensioner is drivers side down low. You can then remove the ace pump and fit the idler. You will need a shorter belt then to suit. Use a Conti belt if you can.

Thanks dude. The idler goes in the same mountings as the pump?, so bolt it back in its place. Does the idler pulley need to be v8 or will Td5 be ok as long as it’s Aircon.

thanks mate, spotted that but I would need a different belt. The pulley looks identical to the advertised TD5 one, so I’m going to assume they will fit either V8 or TD5
I just noticed you need the belt for AC. I’m sure I seen one on eBay for around £36 but I can’t seem to find it now.

You will also need to either disable the ACE system with Nanocom, or disable the audible alarm sounder in the dash. It’s the same alarm sounder that goes off when you leave the lights on, so you will lose that as well if you just disconnect the buzzer.

Im not sure you can disable ACE via a tester. I think a relay needs removing, but lots of posys on here about that if you search. Pumps are common to td5 and v8, so I assume idler is also.

I’m not 100% sure either. I’ve seen ACE on the Nanocom menu and I thought you could change it to not fitted. The guy who bypassed my ACE just disconnected the sounder as he didn’t have Nanocom or similar.

Mine was "disabled" by local Land Rover garage. Whether that was just turning the light off the dashboard or telling the ECU that ACE didn't exist anymore, I'm not sure, however they told me it would be the latter. They also changed the central locking too so it opened all doors on first press of the key, rather than just the drivers door.

Thanks guys for all the input. Ordering the pulley the belt and fan removal tools today. I was originally going to bypass the ace system by connecting the pump back to itself, but it wasn’t going to be quite as simple as it sounds. So I have just decided to remove the pump and add the pulley wheel. My vehicles on coils already so it makes sense. Will update the thread if I get it all work but I’m sure I will have more questions before the end.

Soo mystery
I bough a pulley and started fitting it today but it turns out the block under the pulley is shimmed and extends 3mm out of the tunnel in places. The pulley wheel is shimmed to receive it, but In opposite locations?. Im guessing there “IS” a V8 and TD5 difference then as the spacing would imply I need a different type.

obviously I wasn’t going to let that stop me so I cut down one of the high spacings to make it fit and no issue whent it fine.

Now when I went to fit the belt for a V8 non ACE with AC engine, it is way to small. I looked it up on line and it shows the serpentine belt being routed without a ACE pump obviously but also no pulley wheel at all!….do I even need one?, and if I do what bloody belt to I need and why do some not have the pulley ?.

I tried fitting the old belt and it is to big obviously, but is that because it’s older and stretched, with the Pulley do I use a normal belt?

I’m really confused now, I have the pump out, pulley wheel in place and no belt fits. But pics online show the engine and belt without a pulley at all. Can I just run the belt around the other pulley wheels and tensioners, just ignore the ACE pump section?

Have I used a TD5 pulley (struggled to find a v8 one online and they seems to be sold interchangeably), and that is a fraction to small for the engines belt.

mum really confused and feed up now, it’s been of the road two weeks. Anyone have a bloody clue what’s going on?.

Ok so for the future anyone that needs to know. You don’t need the pulley wheel for the V8, you just buy the non ACE belt and remove the ACE pump job done.

It needs a long test drive but the landys back up and running, thanks all.

This most certainly worked!! Thank you for sharing, I was having the exact same issue and this post was spot on! Thank you.
