Hi All, Yep Me again J

You may of noticed I have swapped an engine in my early ser 3 SWB… We once again many thanks to all that helped with getting her running, greatly appreciated.

I noticed I have a bit of a weep / leak from the oil pressure sensor on top of the oil filter. I don’t know how long the engine has been standing so it may just be a dry gasket / O ring…. But I think ide like to change it all the same.

My Question is do I just buy a replacement sensor and swap it over or is this where a oil pressure sensor would be fitted and if so can anyone recommend a gauge and sensor that will fit?

Take this opportunity to fit a proper mechanical gauge so A/ You actually know what your pressure is and B/ Bypass all that old wiring, sender, light etc.
£30.00 or so, Durite gauges are good as are TIM. Good luck,
ps. if you really want a light as well you can get a T piece and have both.

OK thanks for that. I guess i just replace the switch with the sensor, not too worried about the light but would you know the range of the gauge (Bar / PSI) and the thread size please?

I fitted an electical one and would now agree a mechnical one is better. The electical one is the heat / resistance type and its very tempurature and voltage dependent even though its wired through the voltage stabiliser. At best its a guide, at worst its more distrating than its worth.
 
If I was doing a "modern version" type of Land Rover project - you know incorporating what is good from now with what was good back then - I'd go for some sort of computer bloo toof measurement system that would send all of the measurements to a clever phone as well as logging it on a mega big SD card

In this way keeping the appearance as crude and basic as it gets but actually having a hidden level of OCD that would rival NASA
 
So you can check the oil pressure is ok when its driven off while you are on holiday?
Jokes aside I do like the way the trackers and dash cams have caught out the dodgey workshops and car parking drivers. I live near Heathrow and one of the scams was suing the valet parked cars as minicabs - that showed up on trackers.

I can kind of see an advantage to tracking but connecting everything to the internet seems like a very bad idea to me.

I just miss my old employment where I could measure the heck out of everything even when it wasn't strictly necessary! Having a nice set of custom gauges on a detachable flat screen (bloo toof or not) would be a fiddler's dream...

I fitted a Tim oil pressure gauge kit a couple of years ago, straightforward and never given any trouble. Lou has a 19j engine ( 2.5TD) but I imagine it will be the same with yours but worth checking.
