Space man
Ok just got a series 3 88" petrol , doing some routine maintenance..filed up the front axle then tried to do the rear :wtf:. No filer plug like the front...is the gert big nob on top of the axle a big grease nipple ?

the grease nipple you are on about is in fact the axle breather, the filler plug is located at the front of the diff casing just behind where the prop fastens on to the flange

int gorra tek the prop off, filler shud be on the side of the actual diff unless sum fookers put rangie diffs innit:D

Early series axles had the oil filler only in the diff pan, but on Series IIIs the diff housing has an oil filler on it. Some SIIIs have oil fillers on the pan too, but some don't. It sounds like some muppet has put an early diff into a late axle case in the past. Unscrewing the axle breather and forcing the oil into the axle via that hole is probably the easiest thing to do.

hey DB both in the same boat then ![/quote]

Yeah.. great innit. I've only gotta look at it sat on me drive and it makes me smile. That said, once I get to grips with it the air's gonna turn blue every now and again I'm sure, but I would'nt be without it now I've got one. :)

fook it,drain yer oil, jack it up one side, pulla arf shaft out, purra bit of hose on yer ep 90 bottle on shove it in the ole,an fill up with yer 1.7 litres or wotever it is an shove yer arf shaft back in :D:D:D

Or tek the frying pan off th'end and put a pair of plugs innit, just weld a nut on, drill an 'ole, then screw a bolt in wi a copper washer on.
