Hello all, just registered and wanted to say hello - although truth be told I've be shamelessly using this forum t find the answers to questions for two months.
I'm on my first ever Landy. Wanted one for ever but always ran bikes (most recently a GS1200 Adventure - few of you will know me from the UKGSer pages) but now the bike's gone, domestic clearance for the Landy has been achieved.
Wanted a 110 CSW, so obviously I bought a 90 convertible. Er...
Was given to me gratis by an ex-military buddy Joe. He's on the private circuit now, in Afghanistan, and had put his truck into storage down in Kent. That place were paid to store it properly but when they closed and the truck went up to Nene Joe's brother discovered the horrible truth:
Horrible. Mind you, I feel for the former "storers" when Joe comes home on leave before heading off to Kenya/Somalia. A full refund, I suspect, will be forthcoming.
So he very generously gave her to me - he's got loads of money but is never here and just wanted to see her loved and fixed and used as a family fun vehicle again.
She's far from finished, but she's now my daily driver, our second car. on the road, new MOT etc. Has taken two months and about £2400, if you include the wheels and tyres. Lots still to do, and I apologise in advance to the dozens of daft questions I'm going to ask here, but right now she looks like this:
Lots of dark warnings about the wheels/tyres from sensible Land Rover owners over on the bike forum, all of which I ignored on the basis that they look good, obviously (and actually with a few rod adjustments they're fine - no contact - although proper off-road with full actuation will probably reveal different.
Bulkhead has been welded rather than replaced coz the plan is to drop either a V8 or a 300TDi in there, which'll mean a new one anyway (and a new gearbox) - although both the 2.5 unit and the L=series box are actually solid as rocks.
So, that's me and the truck. This place looks great, and I can tell you already it's a mine of info for a new owner like me, so thanks for all that and look forward to talking bollocks with many of you.
