Hi guys, ive just bought a 1983 series iii 109 ex MOD landie and was hoping for a few answers.
Im a convertee from a cherokee - so these trucks take some getting used too!
Im getting about 20-25mpg (or about 30ish miles to £10 in real terms), is this about accurate seeing as though about 70% of my miles are motorway miles?

It seems to drop about a cupful of oil overnight, but strangely it seems to drop almost all of it within half hour of parking up -???

Burns a bit of oil too - is this normal?

Also refuses to run on tickover, constantly needs a little bit of choke - think just the tickover needs adjusting?

When its cold, (which it ALWAYS is up here in rossendale), it only likes to run on three cylinders until warmed up a bit - likely to be the plugs?

Also, so far Ive just been using unleaded fuel in it, but was thinking that some sort of additive would be advisable, especially as Im doing a fair few motorway miles - what you think?

Brakes are...interesting.... although, ive just changed from a Porsche 944 which stopped just by the power of thought.

Also, at the moment it is a hard side (no windows), is it easy enough to change one side for a stationwagon side? (windows). Anyone know good places to find such parts?

Oh yeah, will standard bench seats fit in the back ?

Also (getting long this list), its a 24v, whats the best way to get a 12v car stereo working in it?

If youve managed to stay awake this far through this post - thanks - any help is appreciated!!
Anyone else from Rossendale too???

We wont hold that against you :)

15 to 22 MPG assuming 2.25 petrol.

Its the oil dropping off your engine and that's not unusual for a old girl.

Dedpends on how much

Plugs, points, lead, distributor, coil and all gaps etc also reset your carb.

Watch for your valve (Tappets) clearances closing up.
If so add a addative (Castrol Valvemaster is ok)

We will hold that one against you :D
The breaks should be able to lock all four wheels at around 40MPH but dont expect Porsche breaks from a breaks designed around 1950.

around £120 for a set of sliding windows and you fit them your self.
See paddocks or craddocks

Oh yeah, will standard bench seats fit in the back ?

Yep see previous

DC-DC converter

Not me:)

Either buy the sliding windows or have a look on ebay for the side panels with the windows already in em. There not trucks because trucks get better mpg, stop when you use the brakes and dont leak like a incontinent old giffer. Welcome to the dark side:)

Thanks for the informative replies... ;-)

Just another quick one - is it possible to trace or research the landies Military history? if so how??
